Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo 2018Dr Guenther, Head of Custom Services for Magnetic Components (CSfMC), will be presenting the case study “How nanocrystalline cores can reduce EMI from ship propulsion systems” at the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo Conference in June 2018.

This conference is dedicated to electric and hybrid marine propulsion systems, technologies and components, and brings the world’s leading experts together to present technical papers on the latest technology that will power the ships of the future.

Electrical propulsion has increased in popularity significantly in multiple modes of transportation, such as road, rail and sea. Ships use electrical propulsion to operate more efficiently and effectively, reducing both emissions and running costs.

However, electrical propulsion has brought new challenges to the industry, with RF disturbances in marine applications causing multiple issues. Cathodic protection can be decreased and damage can be caused to bearings, so addressing these issues is essential.

Dr Wulf Guenther’s presentation will share technical insight of the importance of EMI in shipbuilding. It will explore how complex design challenges can be solved by nanocrystalline cores for common mode suppression, such as using the material around cabling between inverters and electric motors.
